Unlike Proof-of-Work, XTRABYTES' Proof-of-Signature consensus algorithm does not require intensive computing energy to process transactions. And unlike Proof-Of-Stake, XTRABYTES™ relies upon a system of online virtual nodes to ensure consensus. These nodes validate transaction blocks as transactions occur when online. Likewise, nodes that are offline will double check these transaction blocks when they come online.. Even one STATIC node could theoretically run the whole network. Altogether however, XTRABYTES will employ a system of 3584 nodes.
Complementing Proof-of-Signature is XTRABYTES' PULSE (Ping Unified Ledger Synchronization Equalizer) signal. PULSE alerts all nodes as to when a new transaction must be processed. It also incorporates timestamps as a consensus-building factor (unlike Proof-of-Stake). PULSE even determines node communication during the process of verifying transaction blocks.
